We are pleased to announce that Carbogenics has successfully closed a $3 million investment and grant funding round, positioning us for accelerated growth and international expansion. This funding represents a significant vote of confidence in our breakthrough carbon removal technology, CreChar® – a biochar designed to transform biomass waste into a sustainable, carbon-negative solution, particularly within the biogas industry.

As the urgency of climate action intensifies, we are now set to deploy CreChar® and other key biocarbon products across targeted opportunities. This includes enhancing manufacturing capabilities in the United States, expanding our new centralised UK-based operations, and creating new roles across both the UK and US.

Our mission is clear: to address the global biomass waste crisis, turning what is currently an environmental liability into a source of climate-positive impact and economic opportunity.

A Vision for Impact

This investment has been secured from leading UK and US green investors including Dangerous Ventures, Green Angel Ventures, Scottish Enterprise, Old College Capital, and the University of Edinburgh’s in-house venture investment fund, alongside major grant funding from Innovate UK, New Mexico Gas, and the New Mexico Government Economic Development Department.

Importantly, this funding was secured during a period of wider investment uncertainty – underscoring the growing belief in CreChar’s potential to contribute meaningfully to scalable, verifiable carbon removal.

“As a New Mexico-based investor, I see firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with legacy energy infrastructure and underutilised biomass waste. Carbogenics is tackling these challenges head-on with technology that is scalable and verifiable, and a product innovation platform that has massive commercial potential. After speaking with Ed Craig, it was clear this is a team capable of delivering real climate impact – from wildfire mitigation to healthier forests – at a potentially global scale.”

Beyond CreChar®: Advancing the Filachar Project with Scottish Water

Our ambitions extend beyond CreChar®. We continue to collaborate with Scottish Water on the Filachar project, which focuses on sustainable, low-impact approaches to managing sewage sludge. Building on successful work in 2025, this ongoing partnership aims to develop innovative carbon removal solutions that reduce environmental impact while supporting long-term sustainability within the water industry.

Spun out of the University of Edinburgh in 2016, we maintain a strong and active relationship with the University and remain headquartered on campus.

Our Mission and the Market Opportunity

We are scaling operations across the UK and Europe, while simultaneously introducing manufacturing capabilities in the United States – a critical step in addressing vast biomass waste streams in regions such as New Mexico.

We are converting agricultural and forestry residues into targeted products that address specific environmental challenges such as sealing ‘orphan’ gas wells, creating a biochar that supports direct air capture and ultimately helping with soil enhancement and carbon sequestration. Carbogenics is turning a significant liability into a source of climate positive impact and opportunity.

Our breakthrough product, CreChar, designed for Anaerobic Digestion application is proven to enhance biological stability, reduce requirement for chemical additives, enable feedstock access and enhance biogas production leading to enhanced profitability and sustainability.

Our expansion aligns with growing global momentum around carbon removal, as governments strengthen commitments to net zero targets. We are well positioned to play a leading role by delivering verifiable, scalable carbon removal solutions that bridge innovative science with real-world application.

“Carbogenics’ approach to trapping and storing carbon for hundreds of years is exactly the sort of solution our investors fully support. We’re very glad to be playing a part in this important milestone, helping drive the company and its impact into the next stage.”

What’s Next for Carbogenics

Securing backing from leading UK and US investors reflects both the urgency of climate action and the confidence in our biocarbon and CreChar® product platform. This infusion of capital enables us to deepen partnerships across continents, scale our footprint, continue business development, and refine production processes.

As the biochar sector evolves, we are focused on differentiating ourselves through robust, data-driven methodologies, transparent monitoring and verification, and strategic partnerships that underpin market trust and long-term impact.

Ed Craig, CEO of Carbogenics, comments:

“This funding gives us the confidence and validation to demonstrate the value of our breakthrough CreChar® product, while also accelerating the development of other viable carbon solutions across the UK, Europe, and the US. This is a pivotal period of growth for Carbogenics, and I’m incredibly grateful for the backing of our investors. We will continue to innovate and create tailored products to address some of the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.”
